Is it hot enough for you? Because this month is red hot with great books!
It’s rare that the mystery and thriller genre isn’t the one that catches my eye the most, but this is the rare month. There’s a ton of great books in every genre this month. Not that I’m saying there aren’t any great mystery or thriller books this month. I’m really looking forward The Getaway by Ross Armstrong about deadly rich people. That one might be a bit too real if we’re being honest. New books by David Baldacci and Mark Greaney are also coming out this month which look to be must reads as well.
Those books would usually be at the top of my list any month, but this month is just too stacked. The new book by Blake Crouch is going to be read on the day that it arrives on my doorstep. I’ve loved everything he’s written and Upgrade looks like another winner. There’s also a The Big Dark Sky by Dean Koontz which looks really fun. It gives me some The Stand vibes in the best way.
A lot of my favorite cozy authors are coming out with books this month as well. Vicki Delany, Lynn Cahoon, and Laura Bradford are all coming out with some fun stories this month. Plus, some great looking romance novels from Jayci Lee and Ali Hazelwood.
July looks like a great month of reading. Below are what look to be the Best Upcoming Books for July 2022.
Best Upcoming Cozy Mystery Books: July 2022
Murder Spills the Tea by Vicki Delany: The latest book in the Tea by the Sea Mysteries series sees the hottest TV cooking show come to Cape Cod. Lily decides to enter and opening up her tearoom, but tensions run high when celebrity judge, Tommy Greene, loses his temper with Lily’s staff in an on-camera blowup. Later, Tommy is found dead with Lily’s own rolling pin as the murder weapon. There are plenty of suspects as Tommy had many enemies. Now, in addition to cooking for the show she’ll also need to cook up an investigation.
Coached Red-Handed by Victoria Laurie: Life coach Cat Cooper is ready for a vacation with her best friend Gilley. They plan to head to Italy, but before they can leave they have to help a client named Scarlet Rubi who is looking for a fresh start. Unfortunately, that start ends up stopping when she ends up dead. The wealthy victim had plans to cut off her children and grandchildren financially which leaves plenty of suspects.
Caught Dead to Write by Lynn Cahoon: Cat heads off to a retreat for paranormal authors and she’s really excited about it. However, a local professor is causing trouble as he doesn’t think that the event should be sponsored by Covington College anymore. Cat tries to enjoy the weekend, but that becomes impossible when the professor turns up dead. Cat will need to solve the mystery fast before she finds herself arrested for it.
A Perilous Pal by Laura Bradford: Emma runs A Friend for Hire and a prospective client is in need of her help. Kim is recently divorced and Emma tries to help her get through it by putting together a bucket list. They even share laughs by including some ways to get even with her ex, but the joke ends when Kim’s ex ends up dead from one of those thigns on the list. Now, Kim is a suspect in a murder and Kim aims to get her out.
Tone Death by Christy Barritt: The third book in the School of Hard Rocks Mysteries sees a famous Mukbang chewing artist threatened which leads to Camryn Paine being called on to help thanks to her unique auditory skills. In addition to that, Camryn’s father has been released from prison and returns to her life.
Best Upcoming Fantasy/Sci-Fi Books: July 2022
Upgrade by Blake Crouch: NEW BLAKE CROUCH, LET’S $@%&-ING GO! Crouch has to be one of my favorite authors out there and another thriller about hacking genomes is my most anticipated book of the month. I don’t need a synopsis for this one. I just need this book in my hands.
The Big Dark Sky by Dean Koontz: Joanna Chase grew up on Rustling Willows Ranch in Montana, but has long since moved on. Now she is being called back. She is compelled to return to the farm and she’s not the only one. All types of people end up on the ranch, looking for answers just like Joanna. Meanwhile, on the outskirts of town there is a madman with plans of mass murder. This group of strangers will become humankind’s only hope for survival.
Into the Mist by P.C. Cast: An attack on the U.S. releases a green mist that is deadly to men, but gives women superhuman abilities. A group of high school teachers each get their own unique abilities and set out across the Pacific Northwest in hopes of finding a safe place to ride out the apocalypse, but many dangers await them.
The Extractionist by Kimberly Unger: Eliza McKay is an expert in the virtual reality space known as an Extractionist. Sometimes people get stuck in the Swim and it’s up to her to get them out. An attack on her Swim persona is followed by thugs breaking into her house in order to hack her implants directly. The corporate executive she hired doesn’t want out. There is something that powerful people want kept secret and they will do whatever it takes to keep it that way.
Flames of Mira by Clay Harmon: This will be the first book in the Rift Walker series. Ig is one of the most powerful elementals which has him serving as an enforcer for Magnate Sorrelo Adriann. He doesn’t have much choice in the matter as he us cursed with a flesh binding magic that will kill him if he disobeys. When Sorrelo is overthrown, Ig will learn just how bad things can get. He’ll need to escape the flesh binding or sacrifice himself if he is to have any chance of stopping his master from claiming the throne.
Best Upcoming Horror Books: July 2022
The Pallbearers Club by Paul Tremblay: The latest from horror master Paul Tremblay sees a high school loner named Art Barbara who volunteers as a pallbearer. He starts an extracurricular club at school for them known as the Pallbearers Club and his new friend, the coolest girl he’s ever met, thinks it’s cool for some reason. This is only the beginning of strange things she does, including taking pictures of the corpses and an extensive knowledge of digging up the dead. More strange and terrifying things happen when she is around, but he tries to overlook it. She’s his friend.
Black Mouth by Ronald Malfi: Jamie has long felt guilty for his past and leaving his disabled brother behind, but a series of events leads to them reuniting. Fate seems to have drawn them together. They both return to the memories of long ago and the strange magic that was taught to them by a strange man, and the terrible act that still follows them. A new danger presents itself which will require the brothers to confront their past and the man they once knew.
What Moves the Dead by T. Kingfisher: A retired soldier learns that a childhood friend is dying and rushes to their ancestral home in the countryside of Ruritania, the House of Usher. The place is dark and dangerous, with possessed wildlife and a dark, pulsing lake. If he hopes to help his friend, he’ll need to unravel the secret of the House of Usher before it takes them all.
The Daughter of Doctor Moreau by Silva Moreno-Garcia: A re-imagining of The Island of Doctor Moreau set in nineteenth century Mexico is something that is definitely up my alley and I couldn’t think of a better writer to do that than Moreno-Garcia. This should be a good one.
Just Like Home by Sarah Gailey: Vera has been long estranged from her mother, but when she asks her to return she obliges and returns to the home of a serial killer. Her father buried many bodies beneath the home and dealing with that is hard enough, but an artist living in the guest house makes things harder. Worse, someone is leaving notes for her in her father’s handwriting. The artist swears its not him, but who else could it be?

The Getaway by Ross Armstrong: Robert Rathwell is a multimillionaire who owns his own private Greek island. He takes a group of his guests to his island, but they don’t know what they are getting themselves into. The Rathwells own the entire island and the people on it. They can do whatever they like here and whatever includes murder.
World War Zero by Jay Stringer: A new series follows a former archeologist who now makes her living as a black-market treasure hunter. A mission sends her to Syria where she is caught rescuing relics and that’s where she meets an MI6 agent named Joanna Mason. The MI6 agent offers her a deal: help her save the world or go to prison. The choice is simple. Now, all she has to do is find Alexander the Great’s lost tomb.
The 6:20 Man by David Baldacci: A new book from David Baldacci? Sign me up! The story follows a former soldier turned financial analyst who finds himself caught up in an investigation into the firm he works for. He will be drawn into a high-stakes conspiracy into the darkest corners of the highest levels of finance.
Armored by Mark Greaney: First, a new Baldacci. Now, a new series from Mark Greaney? This month is truly blessed. Joshua Duffy is a Close Protection Agent who works for the world’s elite. His last mission cost him his job and nearly his life as he lost his left leg. He ends up finding work as a mall cop until a run-in with an old comrade gets him back in the field. He’s sent to a place in Mexico called the Devil’s Spine to protect a peace mission hoping to make peace between drug cartels.
The Last to Vanish by Megan Miranda: Abigail manages The Passage Inn in the North Carolina mountain town of Cutter’s Pass. The town is known for a mysterious history surrounding numerous unsolved disappearances. The mysteries are put into the spotlight when a journalist out to investigate the disappearances disappears himself. Abby has always felt like an outsider in the town and decides to help the missing man’s brother find answers.

Booked on a Feeling by Jayci Lee: Lizzy is an overachiever who has her whole life mapped out. She’s a lawyer with plans to become partner in a few years. She’s never known about his crush on her. He hopes to keep it that way.
Dream On by Angie Hockman: Cass Walker survives a car accident and wakes to memories of a man named Devin. According to her family, he doesn’t exist and it’s all apart of her imagination. One year later, she meets the real Devin in a flower shop and is shocked to her core. Against all odds, Devin believes her story. Now, the two will look to make Cass’ dreams a reality.
Below Zero by Ali Hazelwood: I’ve been enjoying Ali’s unique STEMinist romance stories and this looks like another winner. The latest follows Hannah as she ends up at an Arctic research station with Ian. He tried to veto her expedition and is the villain of her story, but he’s also in her most lurid dreams.
From the Jump by Lacie Waldon: Liv Bakersfield is a yes-woman. She always agrees to everything, but now she’s stretched so thing that she starts saying no. It feels so good that she quits her job and heads to South Africa on a vacation with some friends. She expects an easy time, but things quickly become complicated – especially with Lucas. Their friendship is important to her and she wants to keep her group together, but she’ll come to learn what she really wants in life.
The Godparent Trap by Rachel Van Dyken: Colby is a popular food blogger who ends up co-guardian of her best friend’s two children. She has to give up her life of travel and put down roots. She can’t stand the man she is sharing custody with, Rip. He values rules and plans, but this situation has blown all that up. Rip doesn’t trust her to be responsible while Colby doesn’t think his rigid control is the way to parent. Together, they will learn how to raise these kids and learn to trust each other.
